Cartoon Music Series: Vestige Vessel #7
 Copper with wax patina. 2020

“Cartoon Music. Vestige Vessel Series #7”, was formed by scoring and folding the ridged geometric components and adding synclastic hammering techniques on the body that together achieve the end results. Given the size of the finished piece (31” x 12” x 8”), these two techniques were the only two that could have been used, without hydraulic machinery, to achieve success at this scale. I used eighteen-gauge copper metal thickness to form both the geometric and organic forms and applied a wax patina to the surface as a finish to the object. I also decided to realize executing this object by adding a similar Conceptual ideation that I have been using for over 30 years to create other hollow-formed objects in a series I began years ago dealing with the idea that perhaps vessels could somehow “evolve” into a vestigial state. I reasoned that in the process of that evolution, they could lose their desired utilitarian function all together.
